Crisis in Ukraine
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, more than 11.8 million people have been displaced from their homes, the fastest growing refugee crisis in Europe since WWII. There are many unique challenges with this evolving situation, and we feel God has positioned our staff in Ukraine and on its borders to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the families that are being affected by this crisis.
Our staff are strategically located deep inside Ukraine and have been ministering there for 20+ years. They have a team of over 50 people serving thousands of internally displaced people who have fled the violence and have come to their city. The Novo team has provided temporary accommodation for displaced people, led hundreds of discovery Bible studies, and distributed tens of thousands of food parcels and winter clothing sets.
Parallel to the physical humanitarian aid provided, they have also established a team of leaders providing psychological support, trauma care, and emotional healing to over 11,000 people.
As we look ahead to the end of this war, the challenges awaiting Ukraine will be more than rebuilding homes and apartments but about rebuilding lives, repairing families, dealing with grief. The emotional trauma is going to take much longer to heal than the physical trauma.
To continue to serve Ukrainians now and in the future, we are looking to develop the land beside our team’s existing hub of operation in the center of the city to build:
A National Trauma Care Center helping people directly and training up leaders from all over Ukraine
A private licensed secondary school that is an expansion of Novo Ukraine’s existing educational projects, providing Christian-led education and profits that would fund the ongoing work of the National Trauma Care Center
HOW YOU CAN HELP
The total cost for this project is $1.4 million, and $500,000 of that has already been committed. That leaves an additional $900,000 still needed to purchase the land, develop it, and equip these projects with the staff and resources necessary for success. Other than start-up costs, no ongoing costs would need to be raised, because it will be self-funding.
Would you prayerfully consider a gift to support Novo’s ongoing efforts to serve those impacted by the crisis in Ukraine?
We want to increase the physical and spiritual footprint of this ministry so we can continue to grow and reach more people–physically, spiritually, and emotionally–with the ultimate aim of movements of the gospel that will start within Ukraine and spread out across the country and the world.
