Ministry WITH AVA MISSION

Novo began working with Ava Mission Africa in 2022 when it was founded by Faisal and Ruth Kateyenge. Ava Mission has teams actively working in schools, slums, the political sphere, among unreached people groups, and in dangerous Muslim contexts, including over 50 madrassas and 18 Islamic universities. A significant number of people, especially those from Muslim backgrounds, are converting to Christianity and becoming disciple-makers. Over the past year, there have been more than 1,389 new Discovery Bible Study (DBS) groups, involving 42 staff and 1,487 volunteers, operating across Uganda, South Sudan, Kenya, and Tanzania, reaching over 300,000 students. It is estimated that over 48,904 people came to faith in Jesus in 2024.

Ministry Strategy

Ava Mission Africa focuses on mobilizing these followers of Jesus to spread the gospel within their networks, families, and communities through discovery-based approaches tailored to each segment of society. For instance, young people from East Africa come to Uganda for education, become followers of Jesus, and are then sent out to minister to university students and to their families and communities. The teams engage with schools through values training for students and by recruiting and mobilizing teachers, sparking spiritual interest and leading to DBS groups among students.

Opportunity

There is a unique opportunity to mobilize a generation of young disciples who will, in turn, make more disciples. With the goal of empowering everyone to multiply everything, Ava Mission Africa focuses on identifying “persons of peace” who emerge as leaders and initiating small Discovery Bible Study (DBS) groups. These groups, led primarily by young leaders, consist of 12-25 peers who learn to obey and share what they discover with their friends, family and communities. Then these groups are encouraged to do the same. This multiplication process ultimately fosters a gospel movement.

This approach has established Ava Mission Africa as a prominent youth mentoring organization in East Africa, recognized by both the government and military. Each year, movement leaders aim to double the number of individuals reached, particularly in areas that have not yet been exposed to the gospel. The ultimate aim is to awaken and mobilize the existing church to take the gospel into communities and facilitate its spread across East Africa.
